Renee Good‘s family, who is seeking justice for the murder of their loved one, has now hired the same law firm that represented George Floyd. According to the Associated Press, the family announced in a statement that they have hired the Chicago-based firm, Romanucci & Blandin.
What are Renee Good’s lawyers saying about her death?
The Romanucci & Blandin law firm said there are several questions to ask about what happened on Jan. 7 when Renee was killed by ICE agent Jonathan Ross in her own neighborhood in Minneapolis. The lawyers said the family deserves to know what federal officers were doing in that neighborhood and what happened during the agent’s interaction with Renee. They also demand to know the details of what happened after the 37-year-old woman was shot and killed.
“What happened to Renee is wrong,” the firm said in a statement, per the AP, adding that the community is not getting the answers they deserve at this time.
Romanucci & Blandin also said the family is urging the public to stop using Renee for political stunts and to remember her as “an agent of peace.”
What happened when Renee Good was shot in Minneapolis?
Renee’s partner, Becca Good, said the shooting happened after the couple dropped off their 6-year-old child at school. Becca said she and her loved one were observing ICE activities on the way back from the school as tensions escalated.
Video recorded by witnesses showed an ICE agent approaching Renee as she was driving a red SUV. As the agent ordered Renee to open her car door, she tried to drive away. Ross, however, fired multiple shots and killed the 37-year-old mother in front of her loved one.
The Trump administration now refuses to bring charges against Ross, saying he shot her in self-defense. Renee’s supporters, however, continue to affirm that the agent was never in danger.
